Emily Murphy brings over 20 years of teaching experience and a passion for early childhood education to her role as a Kindergarten Teacher at Holy Family Catholic School. She holds a Master of Education in Elementary Education from Chatham College and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.
With a career spanning various roles and settings, Emily has dedicated herself to nurturing young minds and creating inclusive learning environments. Prior to her tenure at Holy Family, Emily served as a Preschool Teacher and Assistant Director of the Children's Learning and Development Center in Oakland for four years. She also taught 7th and 8th-grade Social Studies and English for three years and spent two years teaching 3rd grade before finding her passion in Kindergarten.
In her classroom, Emily focuses on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, utilizing flexible seating, compassion, communication, and consistent routines. She finds joy in watching her students grow into confident readers by the end of the year and enjoys incorporating her faith into her teaching.
Outside of school, Emily resides in Verona with her husband and best friend, Joe, along with their four children, Lilly (15), Penelope (13), Peter (10), and Tomi (6), as well as three cats and one dog. As a family, they enjoy spending quality time together with activities like family game nights, mysteries, hiking, and camping. Emily also has a personal love for reading, coffee, gardening, exploring libraries and independent bookstores, and indulging in a good book.
